To Contribute to Digital Equity and Digital Inclusion in Our Society.
What Is Digital Equity & Digital Inclusion?
The condition in which all individuals and communities have the information technology capacity needed for full participation in our society, democracy, and economy.
The activities necessary to ensure that everyone, including the most disadvantaged.
Digital Inclusion must evolve as technology advances. Digital Inclusion requires intentional strategies and investments to reduce and eliminate historical, institutional and structural barriers to access and use technology.
In Practice: The Digital Equity Act
In 2021, the U.S. Senate passed the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act which includes a $65 billion broadband proposal, designed to “connect every American to reliable high-speed internet”. As part of the bill, $2.75 billion is allocated to the Digital Equity Act, which includes state grants being managed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).
NTIA is looking to the states to use these funds not only for broadband deployment, but to also create a positive economic impact through training, reskilling and workforce development. It is projected that an estimated 7 million new jobs will be created if this is done effectively.
As a result, states are entering into private / public partnerships to accomplish this work. They need experienced technology partners to reach the outcome of an equitable economy.
